Courting Attention
A great commotion in the trees overhead drew my attention. Mostly the culprits seemed to be house finches, but in amongst them was a female northern cardinal. Even if dour in comparison with her male counterpart, she is still a colourful and striking bird.
Out on the lake I saw the loon I heard calling yesterday and later a group of northern shovelers steaming full pelt (see extra).
Also on the list were a red-bellied woodpecker, american robin, a male northern cardinal, a squirrel, wood ducks and blue-winged teal.
Extra: Steaming Across.
