Me and the Suffragettes
Big day for Perth with the opening of the Museum and also the complete refurb of the old museum and art gallery which will now be the Art Gallery!
Usual at Tabou for breakfast. Then we walked along to the front of the Museum for the opening ceremony . The museum opened at 12. We didn’t go in today. It’s ticketed (but free) for the Stone of Destiny and they were seemingly sold out in 13 mins. There is a paying exhibition of Unicorns, the national animal of Scotland. I think it really cool having this mystical animal as our emblem. Will check this out at a later date.
We went to the stage at the horse cross. On the way we met these suffragettes who were right into their character and full of fun and said to take a selfie with them! I’m looking rather windswept here!
We listened to Bruce Fummey , he’s a local comedian, on James. Then a young poet called Courtney Stoddart recited a poem she composed on the American Slave , Frederick Douglass who actually came to Perth in the late 1800’s and we think my Great uncle must have been captivated by his story as he named his last son after him. Then a dancer from Crieff named Neve Renwick did an expressive dance as a salmon being caught from the Tay, can’t recall the name of the woman that caught the biggest Salmon from the river. More musicians and by this time were hungry again so popped to The Rose House for soup. Everywhere was very busy it was good seeing crowds of people in the town centre again. There was another stage at the museum with local performers doing their stuff.
Home late afternoon and a chill out evening.
Variety of extras of the day Including two unicorns…..
