Bombylius major
Commonly named the large bee-fly, the dark-edged bee-fly or the greater bee fly, this is a parasitic bee mimic fly. Sadly (but probably not for all the bees in our garden) this one was dead – though that made it a lot easier to photograph.
A nice afternoon in the garden planting veggies – sugar snaps, chard, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions all in... and a bed prepared for my chillies, which will have to wait for a few weeks until the chance of a frost has past.
