Blue-winged Pitta!!
Pitta moluccencis
Today's trip out birding could possibly be one of the best I've ever had.
Birds seen - 48 (40 new for me)
Birds heard - 3 identified + more unknown
Birds nests - 2
Other wildlife - 3 species of squirrel, 1 deer species, macaques, gaur hoofprints and plenty of civit poo!
I'm absolutely knackered. My feet ache, my back aches, my neck too, but all good :-) We saw two pitta species today - Bar-bellied Pitta and Blue-winged Pitta. The bar-bellied didn't cooperate very well and really made us work hard to find her, but this blue-bellied literally fell onto my list while I was lazing about near the bear rescue centre here over lunch! These gorgeous pitta are migratory in Cat Tien and only present from April to September.
Please also check out my other birdy shot today, technically a much better image but it was all about the pittas today - White-rumped Shama!
