Day 1 - 5 go mad in NYC
So we flew out on an American Airlines 777 on Friday. The pilot proudly announced that the aircraft was only 2 weeks old.
It was quite shiny inside, but it didn't have that "New Car" smell. I wonder if there is a Boeing "New Plane" smell?
So this morning we all woke quite early (even nocturnal L). The breakfast bar had a "make your own waffle" iron and an automated pancake machine/dispenser. They weren't as good as Killer Queen's pancakes on a Saturday night tho.
We had a day to waste in NYC before flying onto Orlando....so Long Island Railroad into Penn Station, Manhattan. This comes up just under Madison Square Gardens. I wonder when we will be here to see KT in a production ?)
So we just wandered up 7th Avenue lazily from 32nd street to 42nd street. KT loved looking at the musicals available on Broadway...not sure what we might go and see on the return. Carried on up to Times Square, where we crossed to 6th Avenue.
6th Avenue was "pedestrianized" for the day for a street market style thing. There was an awesome Mexican Street Food stall. L had chicken quesidias, D had nachos and grilled chicken, I had a chicken burrito ?. K and KT went for smoothies....
A few blocks down and we passed over to 5th Avenue. Past the Empire State (pictured), down to 32nd Street and back across to Penn Station.
Took the train back out to the airport and collected our luggage from the hotel. But when we were checking in, K had forgotten her leather jacket she had left at the hotel. I refused to go back! We'll get it when we pass through NYC again in 10 days. And it does mean that anytime she goes to try and nag L on forgetting things, we can all remind her! (ah! A peaceful holiday!).
We were leaving from JFK T5 where my team had installed one of our queue monitoring systems around the taxi rank for a trial. So I took the opportunity to go and inspect their work....I wonder if I can now put this holiday down as expenses.....
Plane was delayed a bit so it was late getting into Orlando...so the car rental was running lower on regular cars. So we got upgraded to a Lincoln MKZ. Luxury for the next 10 days.
