The Wind beneath my Lugs - again!
Geordie wearing his lovely new harness that Suzy bought him.
We walked in Shell Bay woods this morning, but it wasn’t the best idea. Because there’s a large caravan park at the side of the wood, holiday times can mean lots of walkers and their dogs.
I love dogs, but Geordie doesn’t like unknown dogs running up to him, getting in his face, sniffing his butt etc. Its the responsibility of owners to ensure their dogs don’t do that. He knows from experience, sadly, how unfriendly some dogs can be. He’s still traumatised from the last attack! So, when someone is approaching we either head off in a different direction, or I take him into the side leaving plenty room for people to pass. I tell people that he’s nervous and doesn’t want their dog to approach, but there are some owners who just basically don’t care. Several dogs ran up to Geordie this morning despite me saying No. He can’t always detect in advance if the dog is friendly, so he was pretty frightened. If he hadn’t been on the lead he would have been off in the other direction. Recently a dog was attacked in the wood, and tragically it’s injuries were so severe it had to be put to sleep. Criminal charges have been made! I met a friend this morning who told me her lovely dog had been so badly attacked it needed a general anaesthetic and more than 30 stitches to close its wounds.
I know responsible owners and well behaved dogs are in the majority, thankfully, but it just takes one or two silly owners to jangle the nerves and ruin a walk.
Rant over!
I just want all dogs to be allowed to enjoy their walks, without fear. Owners too, of course.
