The assault on the remaining Munros continues.
Breakfast at 7, on the road shortly after 8 and off up the A9 in the sunshine. First stop: Ralia. Coffee and dog comfort stop done, we ploughed on, past the Cigs in the Moy lay-by and past the home of ICT.
Ignoring Harry Gow and heading straight for fuel at Tain's Asda this was the last stop before the Crask Inn (more or less)
And so to the main business of the day. Ben Klibreck. After a slop through the slurry that was the first half mile, the pup was suitably covered in mud. Thereafter the ground steepened and with greater runoff came firmer underfoot conditions.
A very nice rising traverse across the western flank gave swift progress in the sunshine, views opening up to Ben Loyal (to do) and Ben Hope (done)
A nice 20 minute chat with Ross from Broadford gave me time to draw breathe before the final half hour pull to the summit.
Expansive views to Orphir's most celebrated blipper ensued along with birdsong and heat from thon rare orb thingy in the sky.
The peace was shattered by a call to say the air bed was terminally holed and would a £31 flea pit in Dingwall that allowed dogs to stay suffice...? As long as we can get there by 10....
So downwards I trudged. I say trudged. I overtook the last remaining walkers of the day and soon we were driving back towards Lairg across the flat lands of central Sutherland - gloriously golden in the low evening sun, and back south (relatively speaking) Chippys in the North all shut at 8, so by the time we made it to Dingwall it was Chinese or kebab and into the shower and bed.
245 down, 37 left.
