This is an Arizona woodpecker found in the higher elevations of southeastern Arizona and Mexico. The solid brown back (with no barring) distinguishes it from all other North American woodpeckers.

It was a nice day for a day trip to Madera Canyon. Beginning Sunday, I will be staying up there for 5 nights. As always, I'm really looking forward to it.
