The wanderers return...
Our friends Keith and Mairi have recently returned from a three month holiday of a lifetime...two months in New Zealand then one month in Western Australia visiting Keith's sister Judith.
Keith is D's main golfing buddy so has been missed. They were supposed to play golf today but it was apparent yesterday evening that that wasn't going to happen as the weather was so bad. Plan B was hatched that involved Keith coming up here as planned but bringing Mairi and us all meeting at the golf club for lunch. Excellent. I've been looking forward to hearing all about their adventures.
We headed out to walk to the golf club (just a few minutes away) and as we entered the car park, saw Keith walking towards us. He and Mairi had an arrived a few minutes before and hurried into the clubhouse out of the rain, and straight into a funeral wake! Mairi clocked the situation immediately and called Keith back but he was oblivious and sat down thinking it's busy for a Wednesday afternoon! Mairi went in, grabbed him by the arm and hissed come on in his ear and the penny dropped. Lol! When he met us in the car park he and Mairi had already come up with Plan B, which was to go to the Cairn for lunch instead. Perfect as it's also within walking distance. Slightly fancier than we'd been intending but no complaints from any of us.
We arrived, a little soggy, to the usual warm welcome and despite not having booked we were shown to a lovely table and got settled in. It was all rather serendipitous as the last time we saw them was just before they headed off to New Zealand, when we had dinner at the Cairn. We were even sitting at the same table.
Over a very delicious lunch (bangers and mash for D & K, chicken caesar salad for M and me) we heard all about their adventures down under and what an amazing time they had, and thanks to the wonders of blip I could actually visualise many of the places they had visited. It all sounded wonderful apart from the 45 degree temperatures and the flies they encountered north of Perth, where they spent a week in Big Dolly, K's sister's camper van :-)
The afternoon just flew by and in a blink it was 5pm, so we said our goodbyes. D & K are hoping to play golf tomorrow instead and all being well, we have hatched a plan that they will come and spend a couple of days with us when we are in Oban. The holiday house has two bedrooms so if it all works out (will depend on whether they can get away as they are getting work done to their house and may need to be there) they will arrive in time for lunch and we will go out and about and do something touristy, go our for dinner and they will stay over. Next day D&K will play golf and Mairi and I will have a lunch and do more touristy things then they will head home after dinner. Hoping it works out.
No dinner to make this evening as still full from lunch, just a cuppa and a bagel for supper. More crochet, Tesco online order done and a tidy up of the studio in preparation for the cold press watercolour paper arriving tomorrow. Looking forward to that :D
Just remembered that today is my real blip anniversary. Thirteen years ago today it all began :-))
