Real Diner Food
I stopped at Victoria's Diner in South Boston for supper with my sister & nephew before heading home. This is my Lumberjack Omelette with a side of "Big English" (muffin).
The diner is very plain to see and there is no fancy presentation on the plate, but I have never eaten more authentic, hearty American diner food anywhere.
Diners have certain regional variations, and the fare is not the same in the Northeast as in Chicago or out West. Some areas simply have no diner culture, such as Charleston, South Carolina. There, the nearest equivalents are quite wonderful: I swoon to think of SC shrimp & grits or traditional Southern BBQ, but this supper at Victoria's --20th Century Northeastern US diner food --brought on the additional feeling of being at home.
Home is where there's a bottomless cup of coffee waiting.
