Total Eclipse of the Sun!
I couldn't resist getting the camera out and creating a makeshift filter for my lens out of one side of the eclipse glasses. This was a once in a lifetime event, living in the actual path of the totality!! We were concerned that the clouds might cause us to miss this, but as our church were having an Eclipse event so we went over for a lecture by a real live scientist from the university where I am studying. He has a masters in Geology and a PhD in Paleontology, which has nothing to do with eclipses, but he gave a talk on how faith and science are complementary. For those who are reading this who don't know our church is called Galileo Christian Church, with a name like that, we were not going to miss an opportunity to enjoy something so relevant to our namesake.
The main picture was taken during the totality and you can see if you look carefully, the solar flairs, and also some semblance of the surface of the moon, which is quite something. I added a lot of my allotted extras to show the gradual movement of the moon and sun to the point where the totality occurred. I also added a photo of the assembled group all looking at it in the dark that suddenly descended at that point and the cold temperature which dropped about 10 degrees in 5 minutes. You can see L in the bottom left. The remaining extra was of our science professor during his talk.
It was an incredible privilege to enjoy the event like this. And despite the makeshift nature of my free filter, I thought the photos came out amazingly well!
