Friend or foe?
Slugs divide gardeners’ opinion. Some common varieties eat living plant material especially seedlings, new shoots and...... Hostas. But they are a useful part of the ecosystem breaking down dead plant material. They also encourage garden biodiversity of birds, frogs, toads etc, which feed on slugs and snails.
