Gardening with climate change
Yet again we have had to cancel the guy who comes in to trim our laurel hedge, big shrubs, and trees because of rain.
We used to be able to book a slot several weeks in advance confident he would be able do the work but now with the increasing rainfall we keep having to postpone it.
The other day I signed up with SEPA ( Scottish Environmental Protection Agency) and today received our first flood alert for central Scotland. We are fortunate we live 131m/430ft above sea level so it doesn’t affect us but many low-lying areas will suffer flooding.
As for gardening, this summer for the first time we will look at plants that are likely to be able to stand the challenge of our changing climate. Last winter our two 20ft high cordylines were killed by the frost.
