Sick young Pukeko

This time of year we get a lot of birds suffering from Botulism which is caused by a bacteria which creates toxins in birds. The toxin attacks the muscles , paralysing the birds. At its worse the bird slowly dies. This little fellow is lucky. It has been getting treatment, and is slowly getting movement back. Our vet made a “ sling” from a surgical mask so it can stand and eat. Cute eh!!!!!!
