Out and About

Princess.

I've been taking more notice  of the different engines at Haverthwaite Station where I  eat breakfast in their cafe every Friday morning after swimming.
This is Princess. Internet research reveals:-
Built in 1942, WB 2682 Princess was one of seven Bagnalls that worked at Preston Docks until 1968. They all had steam heating apparatus for warming wagons full of bananas. Unripened bananas are kept at 14 degrees Celsius. Cold weather would damage them. Also may have warmed them up to ripen. This is the only Preston Docks loco to survive.

The engine is in service at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway following a ten year overhaul that was completed in October 2019.
