Els Ángels
Sadly, not pronounced ‘ell’s Angels but Els Angles. Thankfully, a much less hellish gradient than yesterday too!
We mooched on up at my best slowest roll in perfect temperatures and a hazy sky. It’s not the dramatic scenery of other places we’ve been but the ancient cork oak forests and smell of pine are gorgeous. Lots of butterflies too going at a much faster pace than me but I’m enjoying waltzing along and Rich is merely sauntering behind (until I need him for a headwind draft!)
The cafe at the top of the first climb was stunning (and where Dali got married for the second time) and an amazing location for a break. We were above the cloud on the east side but it was too far away to worry about having to cycle through it.
We returned via a lower col with an even friendlier gradient which just left a busy stretch back through Girona. This had the benefit of hunting out La Fabrica - a very cool cycling cafe with amazing food in the old town. This was my first visit to the centre so it was a real wow factor cycling through.
Hour by the pool and back to Girona for dinner. Managed to find places open and serving food before 7.30 (we’re in crisis mode by then!) right in the busy square.
Before the bus home, Rich gave me a quick guided tour of the bridges and old streets and a huge (maybe pregnant) coypu (which Rich had seen the other day) on the riverbank - a first for both of us.
