Bluebells!

Today, has been the warmest day this year. This afternoon,  encouraged by recent lovely entries by blippers Paola, cmblow , and Janet Mayes, we went out to our nearest bluebell wood, and weren't disappointed! West Wood near Winchester is an ancient wood with large beech trees and lots of hazel which is  still coppiced to provide glades for certain butterflies and  habitat for dormice. There were wood anemones,  celandine, greater stitchwort, wood spurge and Solomon's seal growing among  the  bluebells. There  was also lots of birdsong from woodland species such as Chiffchaff, Wren, Blackcap, Robin, Blue, Great and Coal Tits and Nuthatch.  Here, is view of a coppiced glade, where the buds are are just breaking on the  hazel, and the wood spurge provides a bright  lime green foil to the  bluebells.
