A glimpse of my day

Shrpshire Union Canal

Cruised for about 7 hours today. Did the 5 Tyrley Locks south of Market Drayton early this morning (8.30 am) but was lucky to have a few helping hands from other boaters. Moored up at Wheaton Aston 5.30 pm. Had a lovely cruise. One minute you are out in the open countryside then steering through what is known as cuttings. Thomas Telford engineered this canal and the digging of these cuttings 200 years ago, entirely by men without powered machines, presented many problems because of the frequent slipping of the cutting sides. Must have been very frustrating.
Today's blip is of bridge 57 (High Bridge) gives a good idea of how deep the cuttings are and still vulnerable to slippage.
Should be on the Staffs and Worcester Canal tomorrow.
