Mexican Glass Ceiling

We are staying in the Gran Hotel in Mexico City for the last couple of nights of our trip. I was keen for P to see the hotel as it is a beautiful example of art nouveau architecture . It was built as a department store, Centro Mercantil in 1898. In 1908 this fabulous Tiffany glass ceiling was added (see extras for more photos). The building was converted for use as a hotel in the 1930s. It is stunning - the lobby and lifts are so beautiful.

We’ve taken it a bit easy today - some final bits of shopping and a visit to the National Art Gallery. It’s been lovely catching up with my son J and A and enjoying a final meal with them. Homeward bound tomorrow.
