Portree Harbour, Isle of Skye

A long rainy walk this morning to the center of Portree and its harbour--this is the side with boats, but very few a relatively small number of boats, and pleasantly colored buildings. It is pleasantly uncommercial--few berths and facilities , but a development project is under way, according to our hosts.

They live about 20 minutes from here--much of the walk is along a small stream bordered by thick woods. It is a marvelous setting.

The kayakers were evidently participating in a lesson--perhaps as much to deal with inclement weather as to learn to manage their craft.
