Not another flower?
I could have posted a turtle or a mother wood duck and her little family, but I chose this flower today instead. You can see the other pictures here if you would like, but I hope you like the cheery yellow flower at least a little bit. Although I am not much into flower power (or didn't used to be), I am playing with the flowers a lot more these days because I have discovered how to fine tune the DOF in my blips, and flowers are so good for practicing that technique.
(Stop reading now if you are not interested in techy talk).
In my photography class, I learned that the image will be sharp one-third of the distance in front of and two-thirds behind the focus point. To create a shallow depth of field, choose a wide open aperture like F4, but if you want the entire flower (for example) to be in sharp focus, close down your aperture to something like F22. So now I am paying careful attention to exactly where I focus, and using the manual focus ring a lot more than I have in the past. And it works! For yesterday's blip I wanted a soft effect with the outer edges blurred, but I wanted today's flower to all be in sharp focus. How do you think I did?
Whoops, I'm getting carried away with T.M.I., and you may know all this stuff anyway. I'll stop now, and tomorrow I will blip something that isn't a flower. I promise!
PS: Did I mention how much fun it is to have better control of my camera?
