The Piece Hall
We were up early this morning for a trip to IKEA. We arrived just as the doors opened, found exactly what we wanted and were out again in under half an hour. As it was still early we decided to drive on to Halifax for a coffee and a wander around The Piece Hall.
The Piece Hall dates from 1779 and was built as a cloth hall for handloom weavers to sell "pieces" (a 30 yard length) of cloth. Originally one of several northern cloth halls it is now the only one remaining. A masterpiece of Georgian architecture, it now houses exhibitions, galleries, small independent shops, cafes bars and restaurants and is also used as a music events venue.
