The sphinx

This afternoon we went to Delphi to take in the archeological museum and then walk up to the ruins of the temple of Apollo and to the amphitheatre still higher! We had a new guide called Penny who was a real treat! She was very clearly spoken and knowledgable and relayed the information in a clear and amusing way. She was fascinated by language and how it was used and just loved her subject! This sphinx was made in the 6th century BC and we know that because she has a smile! Who knew!

Picture of group in front of temple of Apollo, gold artefacts and features of the body that were not clothed and made of marble which were found in excavations under the rubble of earthquake, bronze lost wax method statue of young charioteer dressed as befits a chariot racer to protect himself, statues of twins naked as befits those who play in the games organised to prevent bloodshed and war, Penny expounding some juicy morsel to us, the rock of Mother Earth (Gaia), view from the amphitheatre above the temple of Apollo across to her temple of Athena.
