Dolbelydr
MONDAY
A morning in the garden and an afternoon visit to the open day at Dolbelydr. A 16th Century stone-built manor house which has survived relatively unaltered. It was where Henry Salisbury wrote Grammatica Britannica , published in 1593.
The isolated house which was in a dilapidated state was acquired and sympathetically renovated by the Landmark Trust in 1999 after managing to acquire access rights from a neighbouring farmer. Originally the occupants had to approach the house by crossing the River Ely on stilts!
The house is available for holiday rental from The Landmark Trust with prices starting at £504 for a four day hire. For anyone seeking solitude but not a million miles from civilisation, it's an ideal location - there is no TV or internet, although there is a 4G mobile signal outside. The house has a borehole water supply, underfloor heating and is v very light and airy.
