Bridge over the Clun
I do like a good stone bridge and this one is quite special. This is the fifteenth century stone packhorse bridge over the River Clun. Single track, and mostly original, it carries the A488 road into Wales. According to research by the CPRE Clun is one of the most tranquil places in England. But we already knew that. More than a hundred years earlier in A Shropshire Lad, A E Houseman had written "Clunton and Clunbury, Clungunford and Clun, are the quietest places under the sun".
