Dave Whelan

A 'Marmite' figure in his adopted town of Wigan....businessman (bought and grew the massive JJB chain of stores),  entrepreneur (started one of the first 'supermarkets' in Britain after owning small stores), sportsman (played in the 1960 FA Cup Final for Blackburn Rovers), Chairman (Wigan Athletic, whom he guide to the Premier League for 10 years, and won the FA Cup in 2013, Wigan Warriors RL Club, Orrell RUFC).
His statue stands outside the entrance to the jointly-used DW Stadium, showing him in his finest hour, holding the FA Cup that he didn't win as a player.
