Legacy of the rain
St George's Day. Growing up in Fordington near Dorchester we used to celebrate the day on the village green by roasting an ox, climbing up the many steps of the church tower of St George's to look at the view; and, there were Morris dancers and the like. The first slice of the meat was sent to the then Prince Charles as we were part of the Duchy of Cornwall. I think he must have given it to his dogs by the time it had reached him!
The photograph shows were there had been surface water lying in one of the fields of oilseed rape, now green and cracking up in the dry weather. The plant does not like the wet so we have lost some of the crop as it has rotted.
I disturbed a deer as I walked up to the top, hiding in the rape.
