Cheese

Another day of sunshine and a wander around Foulshore Moss Nature Reserve where osprey are sitting on 3 eggs. We could just see her head moving in the sunlight through a telescope, the male was off hunting. We didn’t expect to see a lot and enjoyed a walk, all boarded, around the area listening to a good variety of birds. One of the guides could hear a grasshopper warbler, John did for a few seconds, I didn’t pick it up.

We had read about the cheese shop in the medieval village of Cartmel although had no idea how pretty or busy a place it would be. There is a racecourse there, unexpected after driving the winding lanes.

The cheese shop didn’t disappoint with some local cheese on offer as well a some from the Isle of Mull, afterwards we bought a locally made pork pie, it was topped with chicken and stuffing and a sausage roll. There was an eating area outside and as it happens a local brewery. Neither of us drink beer normally and bought a small glass to taste, it was light and easy to drink and just the job with the pie and sausage roll. Onto Grange over Sands although we didn’t stop, a beautiful area and only a couple miles from Cartmel. Back to Kendal for some day to day shopping and ‘home’ to the cats who are always very welcoming.

Extras: lunch, the outside of a building in the village, a classroom on the moss and reeds bending in the breeze.
