Mary Gauthier

I’ve waited a long time to see Mary Gauthier play live. This giant of Americana - born in New Orleans but now resident in Nashville - is a songwriting great who isn’t as well known as she should be - certainly in the UK. So I was thrilled to see and hear her on fine form tonight at the Philharmonic Music Room. Afterwards, I bought a copy of her book ‘Saved by a Song: The Art and Healing Power of Songwriting’ which she kindly autographed.

Her song ‘Drag Queens in Limousines’ www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLJExqFcRwA was the first song of hers that I heard, back in the late ‘90s, and it was the song that she opened her show with tonight. Played, as in the video, with her partner, the excellent Jaimee Harris, who also opened the show. See Extras.
