Drying the wings
Called in at the Northend of Snells Beach in the hope of seeing some waders. None was visible on the small area of sand uncovered by water; instead it was fully occupied by Kuihi (Canada geese). Many were in the water. They were preening and also covering their folded wings with water. They ducked their head under the water and then threw water onto their back. Vigorous waving of the wings was the last stage of the bathing and preening
