On the way to the twine works

West Coker twine works used to make twine for many of sailing ships in the Victorian times.  This afternoon we attended a talk in their community room on the history of Bridport Harbour - now West Bay in Dorset. There had been people with merchandise and shipping at the mouth of the River Bride as far back as the 1300s, becoming an official harbour in the 18th Century where there was a lot of shipbuilding and importing and exporting of goods.  Now it is a tourist trap with some of the old buildings still in existence.  Tea and homemade cakes afterwards.
The twine works which were in a derelict state was restored comparatively recently and is open to the public a couple of times a month.
