Diary of an Edinburgher

Seville Day Four

An early breakfast today, there really is a very good selection. Lovely Bircher muesli today. We then walked quickly across town to the cathedral for 10am. Got a wee bit lost. Arrived at the cathedral, only to find that we were due at the Alcazar… luckily it wasn’t far.

Huge queue, but we’d paid to ‘jump the queue’, which is well worth the extra! It’s an amazing place, absolutely awe-inspiring. Unless you’ve already been to the Alhambra, in which case, it’s more of the same on a much smaller scale, but just as crowded. It was so confusing and endless, I had to ask a member of staff how to get out.

We then went for a coffee, and the others decided they wanted to show me the wonderful rooftop bar overlooking the cathedral that they discovered yesterday. And what a view! You could almost touch the cathedral.

A bottle of wine there, then we gave our excellent table to Mike Tindall and a Dutch woman. Well, it might not have been MT…

Down into the square, looking at the cathedral, we bagged a white table-clothed table and had lunch. Another bottle of wine, and a rather long lunch. As Hazel’s old father used to say, ‘They wouldn’t win any prizes for speed’. We had a 4pm - skip the queues - entrance ticket, but were a wee bit late. Not that it mattered!

We’ve been there before, and I remember sitting out the never-ending guided tour. It’s an amazing structure, with completely over-the-top religious iconography. The others climbed up the tower. I found my way out this time by following a school group.

We’re all too tired to go out again tonight. My step count is working again, 10,752 today, but 12,550 yesterday!
