Rookery
A rookery has been long established in the trees on the south side of the Ashby road just after you come off Junction 23 of the M1. Several trees were removed during widening of the junction and construction of Newcroft ERF. That didn't matter too much. The rooks simply moved and built new nests a couple of hundred metres away.
For the first time since I've passed the rookery, I noticed a head emerging from a nest about two weeks ago. It is the time of year for breeding after all. Len had to go to London for a PET scan today so it seemed a good opportunity to take Cecily and Basil to have a look. Plus the 100-400 mm lens.
It's not the best photo, I know. Spring greenery is obscuring the view, but I was lucky enough to capture the male rook bringing food to the nest on which I assume Mum rook is sitting.
There was a strong breeze which brought down the already cool temperatures. As luck would have it, we arrived home at the same time that Len. He made a cuppa and I made the dinner.
Despite the heavy traffic on the Ashby Road, aka A512, the verges are full of Spring flowers such as Geranium lucidum, garlic mustard, white dead nettle and others.
