We had a brief visit to Hollywood with a view of the Grand Staircase to the Dolby Theatre where the Oscar film awards are made.  The area looked very tacky and unlike my expectations after seeing the glitz and glamour on tv.  A few days before the Awards, the street and Walk of Fame are closed and covered with a rain shelter, then the famous 300 feet long red carpet is laid leading to the Grand Staircase.  The sides of the stairs are lined with statues and red drapes hide the shops in the mall which lies behind the theatre.
We were all glad then leave Los Angeles to drive to the beautiful city of San Diego on the Mexican border and wander round beside the bay before going to our hotel for two nights.
