St Andrew's Cross spider
St Andrew's Cross spiders live on the east coast of Australia, from Victoria to north Queensland. This one is a female. The males are much smaller and plainer.
St Andrew's Cross spiders' webs often include decorations of white zigzag silk bands in line with their paired legs. These structures help them to catch prey and protect them from predators such as birds and mantises. The little miss in my photo hasn't got around to decorating her web yet. Maybe recovering from the weekend.
Thanks for hosting tiny Tuesday through April, JDO.
