First kayak of the season
Monday 29 April
With a high of 79F (26C) on the cards, it was time to get the kayaks down from their storage, and get out for our first kayak of the season, at Stonelick Lake. It was very quiet there, being a weekday and early in the season, we just saw two other kayakers at one point, and a couple of guys fishing from the shore. There was a bit of a breeze, so the water was a bit “sloppy”, but we had a great paddle, seeing a multitude of turtles, a number of great blue herons as usual, but also a Greater yellowlegs (lower central image) a Solitary sandpiper and a Spotted Sandpiper - a new sighting for me, but unfortunately my photo didn’t come out too well - the wind kept pushing me round!
