May Day! May Day?

Stormy weather for Labor Day. The rain and national holiday converge to make for a very wet, very quiet day. School, government offices and most shops are closed. The trains and buses run less frequently. What’s a tourist to do? Since nearly all churches are open nearly all the time, we did a ‘church stroll’ ducking out of the rain into whatever church we walked by. First stop is San Martino Cathedral where there was a constant flow of dripping tourists. Most vendors have taken holiday and/or refuge from the rain, except for one. This souvenir vendor stayed huddled under the canopy of his shop-cycle watching videos on his mobile phone. I wonder how many postcards he sold today…umbrellas might have been a better selling item.
