If you can't beat them...

Tulips

We have a talk to prepare for Monday afternoon, so staying at Kat's while she is away is an ideal opportunity to work without distractions.

For blips I wandered round her garden.  When she moved in the garden was a typical suburban garden.  Being basically a country girl working for a conservation charity with a degree in environment and earth science it was obvious there would be changes.  The first change was reducing the amount of lawn mowing and planting what the nextdoor neighbour would consider weeds among the grass.

Next she planted bulbs in the "lawn" currently the fritillaries and these species tulips are making a good show.  Since they were planted a wildlife pond has been dug and the plants (obviously such things are Marsh Marigolds and Water Forget me nots rather than your usual ornamentals) are settling in nicely.
