winter wheat

The winter wheat, which is planted in the fall and has a higher yield than spring wheat, is turning from the green of a few short weeks ago to gold.
Harvest will start in a couple of weeks depending where the farm is located. Those farms closer to Walla Walla will start before those around Waitsburg.
Dad would almost always start between the 10th and 20th of July on the place in Prescott.
Harvest was an exciting and at the same time stressful and exhausting time. Exciting to harvest the rewards of a year of work, stressful and exhausting to make sure nothing happens to the crop before it is harvested and in the elevator, then watching to see what the price per bushel will be and if there will be a profit for the year.
