I've only just discovered that Ents are a species of sentient beings in J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth who closely resemble trees; their leader is Treebeard of Fangorn. Unbelievably for someone of my advanced years I've never read, nor watched the films of, Lord of the Rings. Recently I have been persuaded to watch the films, and have just an hour left of the third to watch; I'm hooked.
