Reed Bunting
Home time for us today after our holiday. We had to be out of the cottage by 10am, but there was a local house clearance/tat shop just up the road so we arranged to leave the car at the cottage while we walked up there. We were expecting it to be quiet just after opening, but it was full of people! It only opened Friday/Saturday so we guess these were the hawks swooping on this week's haul to see if there was anything interesting.
It was certainly eclectic, with cabinets full of stuff inside, a barn stacked full of furniture, and lots of other stuff just piled up on the ground outside. Really reasonably priced too, most of the things we bought were between one pound and three. We came away with a small jug, a few vases, a skull ornament, a wooden pot, and a wooden box.
We were back at the car just after 11, and we set off to visit Brockholes nature reserve. After a sense of deja vu (taking the wrong turn off the roundabout and having to retrace our steps) we finally got there. We had a short walk and lunch (vegan sausage rolls), then sat in a hide for a bit but there wasn't much to see. We did find this Reed Bunting at one of the feeders, where it was described as uncommon. We also saw a deer crossing one of the lakes (see extra).
From there we drove through to a garden centre in Clitheroe for tea and a scone (jam first, then cream) before driving home.
