Caiplie Caves ......
..... or The Coves as the locals call them are a cave system on the Fife Coastal path between Anstruther and Crail.
The Caves were all formed by the sea eroding away the sandstone with a selection of the larger caves also being carved by the various groups of humans who have occupied the caves at various points in time. They were first used for worship in the 9th Century. Way back in history the caves were used by farmers to house livestock.
It's 10 miles from Anstruther to Crail but we only walked between two and three miles from Cellardyke to the caves. We found a comfortable stone where we sat and enjoyed our coffee.
