Kernow.... eventually
What a day and what a nightmare journey. Up early to start getting ready for our holiday in Cornwall, then off to a bowls meeting picking a fellow member up on route. Successful meeting, home for lunch, packed the car, walked Millie pups and made sure the house was okay for Andy and Ruby, as they might be staying at ours at the weekend.
Next was to pick Mrs K from school, get some fuel and set off. It didn't last long as on approach to the motorway we saw that traffic was moving very slowly, and so our first diversion. It took us quite a while to get to the next junction which was backed-up a good mile, only to join the motorway at a snail's pace. This lasted for over an hour before we were freee!
We made it to the Services at Bodmin without a hitch, grabbed a bite and then off again to shortly encounter the substantial construction of a new section of the A30. Back to snail's pace for several miles then off again.
Our final leg of the journey provides three alternative routes and, guess what, we took the wrong one. A road closure and another diversion at snail's pace. A further detour through some small villages only to encounter a level crossing where we had to wait for a main line train to pass, aaahhhh. We eventually arrived at our holiday apartment in Porthleven, which should've taken just over three hours, in a travel time of five hours and fifteen minutes. I did manage to stop very briefly to capture this image of Porthleven harbour. One of my favourite places and the location for quite a lot of my misspent youth.
