At first morning twilight
Woke in time to see the sky cast in beautiful light by the (still below the horizon) sun during the first twilight (60-90 minutes before dawn). The colourful sky did not persist into the later twilights (30-60and 0-30 minutes before dawn).
Later in the morning I enjoyed a jog starting on the mudflats of Southend, around the point and along Fidelis Beach, aroun the next point to Algies Bay and then uphill to Mahurangi East Road and back to the house.
I have added an extra taken when a juvenile Kotuku-ngutupapa (Royal Spoonbill) flew away. The black tips of the wing primaries identify this as a juvenile.
