Highland Cattle
The road we use a lot from the motorway at Tebay to Appleby crosses the Orton Fells. This is open land used as pasture usually for sheep who litter the roads and occasionally deign to move if pushed. This year there is a herd of these beasties which are not as often seen. I was really pleased to come across them close to the road this evening. The horns are huge but they seem to be placid creatures. Their coats make them well adapted to the strong winds at this altitude. There are signs which say ' beware cattle on the road'; those who ignore these do so at their own peril.
