…..drives me nuts….
I decided to upgrade my 6 year old headphones. My old ones were great but it was pretty annoying that they would only connect to one device at a time and they always defaulted to the last device used.
I read that Apple’s AirPod Max headphones could simultaneously connect to more than one device at a time, so when I spotted them in CEX considerably cheaper than new ones from Apple, I decided to trade in my old ones and buy them.
All seemed ok and they connected with no issues to both my iPhone and iPad..so far so good….right up until I tried to view them in the Find My app….and this rather bizarre message appeared. It seemed to think that they were Air Pods and that I’d lost one?
I took them back to CEX this morning and they tried to see what was happening, they do use an Apple ID to test items brought in for trade but they always unpair and remove them from this account. The chap who had tested them showed me that they’d done this and he reconnected them to show me that they were functioning fine…I left the store with them connected to my phone…or so I thought. Once home I noticed that they were still showing this error message on my iPad and then it re-appeared on my iPhone, so at this point I phoned Apple who tried to insist that they were registered to another Apple ID. How could half of the headphones be registered to my Apple ID and half to another one? It just didn't make sense. Whilst I was waiting for another technician to speak to I just decided to “remove” them from the Find My app…when I did this they just re-appeared without the error message! I do think that when they brought these out, Apple made them use the same system to connect as air pods, not really thinking about how these are a single device, not two. So far the error message hasn’t re-appeared and they are working brilliantly. I can use them with my hearing aids in situ as well but the sound is brilliant even without my hearing aids so I’m well pleased!
