A Day Worth Recording

Cigarette Packing

One of several Woodbine packets that have emerged from under floorboards, but the first to be an integral structure of the house.

Near impossible to date directly as the antique style of the packet lasted from the 1880s to the 1960s.  I'd put it at the 1960s end of that given the relative newness of the floorboard it's levelling, and it's proximity to replaced floor joist sections that most likely relate to the owner from 1967 who substantially recovered the place after it had been owned by a charity as a boys' home.

I dread to think what state the house was in at that point - it must have been nigh on derelict.  It was sold for £4000 - the same year and price my parents paid for a 3-bed semi in Ipswich.
