Breathe In And Out...

Tiny tiny tiny

I found these two miniscule beetles (3mm long or so) on an oxeye daisy, along with another one on another oxeye daisy. I wasn't able to identify them so I took to Twitter to try to 'crowd-source' an identity. Both my friend from Buglife (the invertebrate conservation charity) and another professional entemologust suggested that they are a species of Anthrenus beetles, the larvae of which do a lot of damage to carpets, clothes and museum specimens! Although the larvae clearly like our indoor environments, these adult beetles were clearly feeding on pollen from these daisies. Aren't they quite beautiful? And so perfectly formed, yet so tiny!
