Where the wild things are
I was up early again and needed to hit the shops for milk, so breakfast was banana and peanut butter again. I had a still-somewhat-fed-up and very lazy sort of ride to the shops via the big pond, where I sat for a while and watched the moorhens parading their babies around the place. The swans are still on their nests and in the distance, the tiny grey splodge in my photograph is a heron on its nest.
Shopping done it was back to base and I went at Fidra's chrome pockmarks with my magnifying glass and scalpel to dig the rust out of two dozen tiny little divots. Under the microscope there were far more dents than I imagined. Despite hours of polishing yesterday the worst were all quite sharp to my precision straightedge. With the finest grit wet-and-dry I eventually got the surface flat. It was tricky, cocktail sticking Araldite into the divots, none of which is larger than about a third of a millimetre. For an encore I got the polishing wheels out and spent ages cleaning up the nasty corrosion in the fork tube where the leaking seal was. And somehow that was the whole day.
I also downloaded the Merlin bird app and so far my garden has had blackbirds and sparrows – not that I need fancy technology for that – and a song thrush that I couldn't see.
