The Front Yard (Sunday 5th May 2024)
There are aquilegias of various hues springing up in the Woodland Garden and on the driveway at the moment. Records show that in the past I have bought two kinds, a Dragonfly-hybrid and one called Mrs Scott Elliott, but whether these are either or possibly self-seeded wildflowers from the Old Forge's earlier cottage garden days, when they were known as columbines or grandma's bonnets, who can say? In Extras is another macro shot of the green alkanet (Pentaglottis sempervirens) but with added bee.
P.S. Refna tells me these are probably self-seeded wildflowers so I’m entering them in Miranda’s WildFlower Week.

Two Nice Girls - Sweet Jane (With Affection) (recorded live, Austin's Liberty Lunch, The Austin Chronicle's "Sweet Jane Contest", 1987)
New to me, having heard Lauren Laverne play it on Radio 6 Music.
Two Nice Girls created this medley of Sweet Jane by Velvet Underground and Love & Affection by Joan Armatrading, in order to participate in The Austin Chronicle's "Sweet Jane Contest" in 1987, part of the rag's 5 year anniversary celebration--wherein a bunch of bands performed their versions on stage at Austin's Liberty Lunch. We appeared on KUT-FM either shortly before or after, performing it live. Good thing the show was recorded, because it was this recording that caught the ear of Geoff Travis, who later signed us to Rough Trade Records. While making our first record we re-recorded the song but it's this early KUT version that ended up on the album (clams, nerves and all). Enjoy! - Two Nice Girls
